MARSHALL COUNTY COMMUNITY FOUNDATION GRANT SUPPORTS CASA OF MARSHALL COUNTY TO PURCHASE BOOKS FOR VULNERABLE CHILDREN
Culver Children’s Author Returns Home to Share Uplifting Story
A grant from the Marshall County Community Foundation during the fall 2017 grant round helped the CASA of Marshall County to buy 100 copies of the children’s book, Samuel T. Moore of Corte Magore to give to children in the CASA program and to place in all of Marshall County public and elementary school libraries.
CASA of Marshall County trains and places volunteers who are appointed by a judge to represent the best interest of a child in court. These children are victims of abuse and/or neglect and are in the court system through no fault of their own.
Tonia Allen Gould, the book’s author, said that she cannot imagine a more perfectly aligned organization to connect with her book. “The Marshall County Community Foundation’s grant allows CASA of Marshall County to utilize my book in its programs that get front and center with children who are going through something significant.”
Gould made her children’s literature publishing debut when she wrote the epic tale about a tenacious land and sea fiddler crab that finds himself on the shores of an island named Corte Magore. The book teaches children about courage and tenacity, to stand up to bullying and to fight for what they believe in.
Originally from Marshall County, Gould grew up in both Culver and Plymouth. “When I am back, I continue to feel perfectly at home. To know my book is being utilized for social good throughout Marshall County, my birthplace, is truly an honor.”
Chastity Keller, director of CASA of Marshall County, said that after learning that Gould was from Marshall County, she “knew this book and the author could make a great impact on some of the most vulnerable children in our community.”
Tonia Allen Gould is reading Samuel T. Moore of Corte Magore at the Culver-Union Township Public Library on Monday, March 26 at 3 p.m. with a drawing for an autographed book. Gould will sign books at the Culver Coffee Company from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, March 30 to benefit CASA of Marshall County.
