5/18/08 - The Marshall County Community Foundation has announced two Marshall County students will receive full, four-year scholarships as the 2008 Lilly Endowment Community Scholars.
Kathryn Day and Renee Zeltwanger will receive not only full tuition to an Indiana college of their choice, but also an $800 stipend for required books and equipment each year.
Kathryn is the daughter of Ronald and Lori Day of Plymouth. She attends Plymouth High School and is planning on attending Butler University and majoring in political science and journalism.
Renee is the daughter of Ron and Lana Zeltwanger of Bremen and attends Bremen High School. She
is planning on attending the University of Indianapolis and majoring in physical therapy.
For 2008, the Lilly Scholarship Selection Committee, consisting of Kay Finlay, chair, Carolyn Kline, Latham Lawsom, Robert Pickell, Louise Mason, Sarah Smith, Susan Wagner, Todd Burch, Isabel Sanchez and Dr. Don Balka, recommended to the board of directors of the Marshall County Community Foundation the two finalists. The committee reviewed 24 applications and interviewed five applicants.
ICI (Independent Colleges of Indiana) administers the scholarship program. ICI is a nonprofit corporation that represents 31 regionally accredited degree granting, nonprofit, private colleges and universities in the state.
The scholarships are the result of a statewide Lilly Endowment Initiative
to help Hoosier students reach higher levels of education. Indiana
ranks among the lowest states in the percentage of residents over
the age of 25 with a bachelor’s degree. There were 216 scholarships
awarded statewide.
