Marshall County Promise Helping Local Students Plan and Dream of College and Career

1:1 Match on Giving Tuesday, November 28, will double all donations to Promise Program

Marshall County Promise, a cutting-edge program that helps youth in all Marshall County public school systems dream about their future careers and save for education beyond high school, will participate in Giving Tuesday for the first time this year.

An exciting 1:1 match will mean all donations will be doubled this Giving Tuesday to the Promise program.

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration.

Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season and encourages philanthropy and celebrates generosity. This year’s Giving Tuesday is November 28, and will have a big impact on Marshall County’s students.

The Marshall County Promise program has a unique opportunity to double the giving power of local supporters on Giving Tuesday. Through the 1:1 Fund, all donations to the Marshall County Promise fund held at the Marshall County Community Foundation (MCCF) will receive a dollar-for-dollar match up to $500, per individual donor. Donations will be used to help local youth open CollegeChoice 529 accounts, with an initial $25 deposit, and to encourage families to contribute to the accounts by providing matching funds.

“The Marshall County Promise program is an inspiration to all our families to focus on their children’s future. It is a great way to show our students that their family and friends care,” said Donna Burroughs, Superintendent of Triton School Corporation. “All the public school systems of Marshall County – Argos, Bremen, Culver, John Glenn, LaVille, Plymouth and Triton – are standing united in this goal to raise major funds to support our children in their career and college goals. This is all for the kids!”

Marshall County is one of only 18 Hoosier counties participating in the Promise program, providing rural students across all the county’s school systems with a unique edge for their post-high school education plans. Through college and career discovery events at Ancilla College, college savings accounts (which may be used for college or any post-secondary educational or career training), and the use of "Champions" who personally and financially invest in youth, the Promise program makes kids three times more likely to attend college and four times more likely to graduate!

Marshall County Promise is a partnership between the Marshall County Community Foundation, public schools in Marshall County, Ancilla College, the Marshall County Career Success Coalition and United Way of Marshall County.

Marshall County Promise has set a goal of raising $25,000 in 24 hours on November 28 – this would mean $50,000 to support the educational dreams of children throughout Marshall County. Individuals, groups, businesses or organizations interested in donating as part of Giving Tuesday can visit the Marshall County Community Foundation (www.marshallcountygives.org) to make an online donation.
